FRIENDSHIP

Many people prefer to study in a college with a dorm. Their lives change dramatically when they moved because this move had give them the opportunity to build their personality, new life is a challenges that they must faced it, which will give them the strength to be able to make their own social lives and be more responsible as adult. I agree that in order to get along well with college roommates students should meet first to discuss.

Roommates may face some problem that they could avoid it by meeting each other and discussing some issues they don’t agree on. This is important because if they don’t ,this can affect their lives and grades. First of all, addiction to alcohol and drugs could be a serious problem. This will cause a lot of misunderstanding, ignorance also a lot of work on the partner who is not an addicted (video 1). Secondly, some partners do not consider others needs serious needs so they are selfish and don’t help to create a quiet environment to study. As a result they continuing doing noisy things and distract other from study (video 1). Finally, security is the most important that the both must be considered in it. So it’s their responsibility to provide security. Sometimes partners could be absent mind so he would lose the key or gives it for his/her friends, which absolutely will lead to many security problems (video 1). This number of problem that could faced any roommate must be solved or maybe avoid it by meeting before moved together.

Roommates need to learn communication skills and meet outside to discuss living together, so they will avoid arguments which can lead to a bad consequences in many times. First, ask open ended question. According to the expert Rebecca, asking this kind of questions such as questions starts by what, when, how and why make the conversation longer, and give the both sides enough information (video2). Also, avoiding closed questions that the partner might answer yes or no, which kills the conversation. The second step is to be active listener. According to the video2, when you listen to your partner, this make you understand him/her more and shows that you are interested in whatever he/she says. Moreover, avoid bad sentences which can make you fight with other people. Try to choose good words that do not show that you do not like your partner or are aggressive (video2).

To conclude, roommates should meet and discuss some rules and learn some communication skills to avoid serious arguments, and to continue their school life in a good situation. I think having a roommate is a good experience, but it is difficult because many times you have to quit from things you love or you used to do since you are not alone, and there is another person have to considered.
